20 Week Abortion Ban
The United States Senate is trying to pass a bill that will ban abortion past the 20 week mark nation-wide.
Reasons this is important:
- This is based on faulty science; the theory that fetuses can feel pain after 20 weeks has been debunked
- Fetuses are also not viable, able to live outside the womb, at 20 weeks
- Most U.S. citizens do not support a ban on abortion past 20 weeks
Reasons people may need an abortion past 20 weeks
- Health and safety issues
- They didn’t know they were pregnant (especially common in those who have irregular periods or those without proper sex education)
- difficulties finding a clinic, reaching a clinic that thanks to other bans may be a state or more away, or raising money
- in the cases of pregnancy causing emotional trauma some may be in denial of the pregnancy.

- Although there is a limited exception for sexual abuse survivors, part of this bill will make it so they will have to PROVE they were abused, either by having a rape kit done (which must be done almost immediately after said abuse) or seeing a counselor and getting a written form. This can be impossible for many survivors who can’t afford or don’t have access to these things, further traumatize survivors, put them into a worse position by going public with their abuse, impede their own recovery needs, or make things difficult for young people who need parental cooperation. They also must wait 48 hours before they can get the procedure done. Sign this petition to tell your representative this is not okay.
- Exceptions only include incest survivors if they are minors and they must file a report on the abuse, something that can be dangerous and traumatizing and will take up precious time
- When it comes to abortions needed for medical reasons, exceptions are also limited and may be up to the doctor.
In the language of fashion magazines and cosmetic ads, making up is typically portrayed as an aesthetic activity in which a woman can express her individuality. In reality, while cosmetic styles change every decade or so and while some variation in make-up is permitted depending on the occasion, making up the face is, in fact, a highly stylized activity that gives little rein to self-expression. Little latitude is permitted in what is considered appropriate make-up for the office and for most social occasions. Indeed, the woman who uses cosmetics in a genuinely novel and imaginative way is liable to be seen not as an artist but as an eccentric. Furthermore, since a properly made-up face is, if not a card of entry, at least a badge of acceptability in most social and professional contexts, the woman who chooses not to wear cosmetics at all faces sanctions of a sort which will never be applied to someone who chooses not to paint a watercolor.
